Coosa River Swim Guide

The Fall fishing season is upon us and Coosa Riverkeeper is here to give all of our anglers the next tips and tricks, so you can catch your next personal best!

  • In reservoirs, shad and smaller baitfish will shift from our creeks and skinny water into the main lake where water temperatures are more stable from day to day. Chances are, game fish are not far behind!
  • When the water temperature drops, slow your roll! Since fish are cold blooded, their metabolism slows as the water temperature drops and they move more slowly. Retrieve steady and slow to more accurately mimic small fish and critters!
  • Consider fishing for different species! During colder seasons, some fish are more dormant while others become more active.
  • Once the leaves in the water begin to decompose, the water becomes stained by tannins, making it darker. It is typically best to use your darker colors once this process begins. Rootbeer and pumpkinseed green are going to be a hit this time of year. Darker water makes our darker baits more visible!
  • Suspending jerkbaits and ned rigs are going to be your friend! Lures like these allow you to slow your roll and stop for brief periods of time to tempt slower moving fish.
